Kupets Says She Won't Try for the Olympics

Thursday December 6, 2007
Courtney Kupets, a member of the 2004 Olympic team and a current leader on the University of Georgia women's gymnastics team, has formally announced that she won't be attempting to compete at the 2008 Olympics, and will instead be focusing on NCAA competition.

I had hoped that Kupets, the 2-time NCAA all-around champion, would try to make the team because she excels on bars, where I feel the U.S. is lacking depth. In an interview she gave to Inside Gymnastics, however, it doesn't seem as though the door is completely closed. She says:
"As of now, I have no thoughts for it, but I guess you can say you never know what the future would bring." (InsideGymnastics.com)
Perhaps she's simply taking the pressure off herself for now, as the NCAA season is gearing up? What do you think -- will we see Kupets try for the team? Will she be selected to it if she does give it a go?

I think she would have had to have been on the worlds team this year in order to make it. She hasn’t competed elite since the last Olympics.
