Aussie Gymnast Hollie Dykes Retires

Wednesday January 9, 2008
Australian news is reporting that Hollie Dykes has officially retired from gymnastics. So sad! A crowd favorite because of her exquisite presentation and technique, Dykes has had a series of injuries in the past few years and never quite reached her potential.

Though national team coach Peggy Liddick implies that the Australian team doesn't need her for the Olympics, many would argue that she could have added a lot to the team, especially on beam and vault.

She will definitely be missed! Here's Dykes at her best, at the 2006 Pacific Alliance Championship.

I am amazed you Aussies dont want to know why Hollie decided to retire she was as good as youve got do you never wonder about why they got rid of certain AIS staff and brought others in who cant do the job it is nothing to do with injuries PS its one medal less for Australia wel done Peggy

Darn!!! I was betting on hollie to be one of the australian gymnastics team star gymnast. She was such a graceful competitor. A real inspirational gymnast. All poise and elegance and perfection. I agree. Being one of the few aussies that agree, i do want to know the reasons behind why she did quit so close to the olympics. Is it because of the AIS coaching staff?? Why do they say that we could have world beaters but never actually live up to the title?? We’ve got the facilities. How is it that we can pay for the proper facilities, but we can’t get some decent coaches who are going to help us become worlf beaters?? How is the australian gymnastic team going to cope without hollie??
Peggy is wrong saying that we don’t need her!! WE MOST CERTAINLY DO!!! How many more good gymnasts are we going to lose before we haven’t got a team at all??? Oh well. Just badluck for us then ay. Anyways, i hope that hollie enjoys the rest of her gym free life!!

Hi Lindsay and Alex,
I agree, it’s such a shame that Hollie retired. She was a beautiful gymnast to watch, and could have really helped the Australian team at the Olympics. I don’t know the reasons behind why she retired, but I hope she’s happier now.
