Congrats to the USA junior and senior teams at the "Italy-Spain-Poland-USA friendly competition." On the senior side, the team (Jana Bieger, Olivia Courtney, Chelsea Davis, Samantha Peszek and Shawn Johnson) bested second-place Italy by a little over a point (179.050-177.950). Spain was third, with Poland fourth.

Johnson, the reigning World All-Around champion, won the all-around here over 2006 World All-Around Champ Vanessa Ferrari. Peszek was third. According to International Gymnast, Ferrari performed only a Yurchenko full on vault instead of her usual Yurchenko double full. IG also reports that American Bridget Sloan was slated to compete, but had to withdraw after an injury in warm-ups.

In the junior competition the USA team beat Italy by almost ten points (181.05 to 172.1). Romania was third, with Spain in fourth. Twelve-year-old Jordyn Wieber (USA) won the all-around while Rebecca Bross, the junior national champion, took second after a fall on beam.

I hope Bridget is not seriously injured -- I think she has a great shot at making the Olympic team this year.

Are the junior’s judged by the same standards/judges as the seniors? Is Jordan Wieber’s 60.9 better than Ferrari’s 60.1? I continue to be very impressed with Samantha Peszek. Good job, girls!

Hi Ali,
Yes, the juniors and seniors were judged under the same rules at this meet, so scores can be compared somewhat between the two. I Ferrari is coming off of injury, though, so she is likely to score better in her next competition.
