In honor of the first of April, I've been trying to remember occasions when the judges have been fooled at major meets.

The first thing that came to my mind was at the 2003 Worlds, when Morgan Hamm performed a Tsukahara 1.5 but was credited as performing a Tsukahara 2.5 (his usual vault).

There must be a million others though -- can you think of any?

Oh funny! I think Nastia was given credit for a 3.5 instead of a 2.5 twist on floor at maybe the 2006 Nationals?

It wasn’t a big meet, but one of my teammates fell off on her beam mount and somehow the judges totally missed it! She got a 9.55 for her set, completely impossible!

I think it was Courtney McCool at Georgia all year — her beam was being credited at a 10.0 start value but really she was missing a requirement and should have only had a 9.9 SV. It was for like 5 meets!

When I did power tumbling, a girl forgot to count her skills and did 4 instead of 5 and still got a 9.8 or something equally ridiculous. A couple years later the DD judge gave me 1 tenth extra because he didn’t have the slightest idea what my 1st pass was worth.
