Australia has announced its Olympic team: Dasha Joura, Shona Morgan, Lauren Mitchell, Ashleigh Brennan, Georgia Bonora and Olivia Vivian, with Emma Dennis as alternate.

The leader of the team is definitely Dasha Joura, who finished 5th all-around at the 2006 Worlds. (And many feel deserved to be on the podium at that meet.)

Though national head coach Peggy Liddick told IG she thinks they can end up third, I think that is unlikely. I love the Australians, but I think they would need Hollie Dykes, Monette Russo and Chloe Sims to medal as a team. All three retired recently.

What do you think? Where will Australia place at the Olympics?

Also: Samuel Simpson earned the berth as an individual competitor on the men's side -- Australia did not qualify a full men's team to Beijing.

I love Joura – and thought she was a joy to watch at the ‘06 worlds. But I agree that it is a stretch to expect the Aussies on the podium in Bejing. But I am sure they will have one of the better cheering sections and less jet lag than many other countries!

I was upset to hear that Chloe Sims would not be competing in the Beijing Olympics. I had the privelidge of meeting her and her brother last year in Toowoomba, and was looking forward to watching her compete. Such a shame as i heard she was accepted into the Beijing Olympics.
