Paul Hamm Recovering from Hand Injury
Friday July 25, 2008
In a press conference this week, men’s national team coordinator Ron Brant estimated that Paul Hamm is "probably at 80 percent" of a full recovery from the hand injury he suffered at US Nationals about two months ago.
"Every day he makes another step forward in what he's doing," continued Brant, "This week I would say he made the biggest jump, being around his teammates. He built confidence up in his hand, and his ability to perform showed. He performed on a high enough level that his scores -- when you throw them in there with the other guys -- show he's still in it. P-bars is still the one [event] that needs more work."
Hamm was confirmed for the Olympic team, and told NBCOlympics.com that if all goes well in his training, he feels he has about a 50-50 shot at winning the all-around gold in Beijing.
What do you think? Can he win? I think Yang Wei still has the slight edge.

I actually had grown to favoring Hamm before he got hurt. He really looked overpowering in meets at the beginning of this year and his scores were higher than Wei’s. (And I don’t think there was some conspiracy to overscore him.)
But now hurt? With still not having peach baskets 2 weeks before the competition? He may not even be ABLE to do AA.
I think he’ll pull it off! He is so mentally tough, and Yang Wei isn’t.
I think Yang Wei will win. He has too big of an A score, even if he falls.
