Many (myself included) were excited about a possible Paul Hamm-Yang Wei showdown in Beijing this past summer, but Hamm injured his hand at Nationals and was unable to come back in time for the Olympics. Now it seems that he will be retiring from the sport, at least for the near future.

According to an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Hamm has accepted a job at Breakwater Capital LLC of Chicago, starting around the first of next year. Twin brother Morgan, who also withdrew from the Olympic team because of injury, is starting chiropractic school, also in Chicago.

It seems that both brothers are retiring, though Paul doesn't completely rule out a return sometime in the future. He tells the Journal Sentinel, "There's a good chance that this is it, but I'm not going to completely close the door. If two or three years from now I have the desire to make a comeback, that could happen."

I wanted Paul to win again in 2008, I feel really bad for him for what happened in 2004, and this year, when he broke his hand. I hope he decides not to retire after all.
