Russian Ksenia Semenova and German Fabian Hambuechen each took the all-around crown at this weekend's European Championships. In the women's meet, Semenova outscored teammate Ksenia Afanasyeva (58.175 - 57.600) to win the competition. Switzerland's Ariella Käslin placed third, the best finish ever for a Swiss woman. 2006 World champion Vanessa Ferrari took 9th place with a very low score on vault (12.700 -- she fell on her double-twisting Yurchenko).

Semenova was very consistent, with scores that ranged from 14.225-14.925. Bars was her top-scoring event, but she was most fun to watch on floor (some weak form on her tumbling, but her dance was fantastic.)

On the men's side, Hambuechen outdid the rest of the field (89.175) despite a fall on parallel bars. Great Britain's Daniel Keatings was second (88.275), while Russia's Yuri Ryazanov placed third (88.200), the same ranking he held at the 2007 Europeans. Hambuechen was second in the all-around at both the 2007 Worlds and 2007 Europeans, and this is his first major all-around victory. A crowd favorite, he scored highest on vault (16.025 -- Yurchenko 2 1/2) and floor (15.500 -- layout double-double mount).
