Alexandra Raisman of Brestyan's was chosen as the second US woman for the American Cup roster. She'll compete alongside world all-around silver medalist Rebecca Bross. (The rest of the roster is here).
Raisman trains at the same gym as 2008 Olympian Alicia Sacramone (who's working on a comeback), and just moved up to the senior ranks this year. She won vault and floor at the 2009 Junior Pan American Championships and finished third in the all-around. She was also third all-around at last year's junior nationals.
Raisman is most exciting to watch on floor, but is solid across all the events:
- Raisman on floor at Junior Pan Ams
- On all four events at the 2009 American Classic (and talking to Sacramone at the beginning)
The American Cup will be shown live on Universal Sports (and universalsports.com) from 11:30am- 1pm ET on Saturday, March 6, then NBC will continue to air the event live from 1-3 pm ET.
Also, in conjunction with the American Cup will be The Nastia Liukin Cup, an invitational for level 10s held on Friday evening. Universal Sports will air it live 7-9 pm ET Friday. This could be a great meet to watch. More on The Nastia Liukin Cup is on the USA Gymnastics website.

Great for Aly getting to compete in front of the home crowd!
Ummm…I’m just pondering out loud, here…
Does anybody truly believe that Alicia Sacramone has a legitimate chance at coming back, and making the 2012 Olympic team?
I’ve even read that Carly Patterson is also working on making a comeback for the 2012 Olympics. Is her singing career not panning out so well for her these days?
Please don’t take my questions the wrong way.
I mean, I think both have had phenomenally successful gymnastics careers. And I have nothing but complete respect and admiration for each of them.
However, hasn’t anybody yet noticed the burgeoning trend toward younger, smaller gymnasts who haven’t yet experienced nearly as much negativity (and injuries)?
It certainly appears as though Team USA’s Chinese competitors have already been moving in that direction
for some time. Just look at how diminutive their 2008 Olympic team members were.
Am I all alone in discovering this observation?
I suppose anybody can make a comeback. However, actually making it on the Olympic team is an entirely different matter.
