The 2012 US men's Olympic team was named this morning:
Jake Dalton
Jonathan Horton
Danell Leyva
Sam Mikulak
John Orozco
Alternates:
Chris Brooks
Steven Legendre
Alex Naddour
No surprises here, and this team will be a great one. Orozco and Leyva earned automatic berths to the team on Saturday night because they were the top two all-around scorers, and finished in the top three in at least three of the events.
Mikulak had to withdraw from day two with a sprained ankle, but had more than proven himself after day one, where he scored the highest of anyone and was third overall when combined with nationals scores.
Dalton or Legendre was needed for the team as a vault and floor specialist (weaker events for Orozco and Leyva), and Dalton was the cleaner and more consistent one of the two. And Horton is the best in the US on rings, with veteran experience from the 2008 Games.
It's a very talented team, and one of the favorites for a medal, if not gold, in London.
