The women's qualification day is over, and now the top eight teams, eight individuals on each apparatus, and 24 all-around scorers will advance to the finals. Here's the complete list of qualifiers and results from Olympic gymnastics, day one.
The big surprises? Jordyn Wieber missing the cut-off for the all-around competition still ranks as the highest. She had a good day; her teammates just scored higher.
I also expected Larisa Iordache of Romania to make the beam and floor finals. She is working through a foot injury, and had mistakes on both events. She did qualify to the all-around finals, however.
Like Wieber, American Kyla Ross fell victim to the two-per-country rule. She had the sixth highest score, but doesn't advance because teammates Gabrielle Douglas and Alexandra Raisman both outscored her.
