Competitors:
Teams are chosen with a different strategy in mind for this worlds than other world championships or Olympic Games that include a team event. Since each team can enter athletes into only an all-around or individual event competition, specialists become especially valuable. Each country is allowed six gymnasts on the men's side, and four on the women's.
US men's team: The US named its men's team following the conclusion of the 2013 US nationals:

  • Jake Dalton, 2012 Olympian
  • Steven Legendre, 2012 Olympic alternate
  • Danell Leyva, 2012 Olympic bronze medalist -- Leyva later resigned from the team due to injury, and 2012 Olympian John Orozco has been added as his replacement
  • Sam Mikulak, 2012 Olympian and 2013 national all-around champion
Alexander Naddour, 2012 Olympic alternate and silver medalist at the 2013 US nationals
  • Brandon Wynn
  • Team alternates: Eddie Penev and Paul Ruggeri
US women's team: The US women's program named its team following a national team training camp:
  • Simone Biles, 2013 US national all-around champ
  • Brenna Dowell, 2013 national all-around bronze medalist
    McKayla Maroney, 2012 Olympian
  • Kyla Ross, 2012 Olympian
Brenna Dowell has now been named the team alternate, with the other three gymnasts competing all-around
