Georgia Women and Stanford Men Ranked First in NCAA Pre-Season Poll
Friday December 21, 2007
It's no surprise that the Georgia women's gymnastics team was voted as the pre-season favorite in a recent coaches poll. Led by junior Courtney Kupets, the Gym Dogs won the last three NCAA team titles, and have the advantage of competing at home this year in the NCAA Championships.
On the men's side, Stanford was selected to win this year, despite a third place showing at the 2007 NCAAs. Though Penn State and Oklahoma bested them last year, Stanford is loaded with potential in 2008: Sho Nakamori and David Sender are U.S. national team members, and Nakamori was the alternate for the U.S. World team. With these two men leading the team, the Cardinal could win its first national title since 1995.
Stanford's first meet is on January 12 in Chicago at the Windy City Invitational, while Georgia kicks off its season on January 11 in Salt Lake City against Utah, the 2007 NCAA runner-up. It's going to be a very exciting year in NCAA!
Who do you think will win this year?

I’m rooting for Stanford — both men and women. I think this will be the year they finally break through!
Considering only 4 teams have ever won on the women’s side, I’d like to see a new team take the title…but honestly, Georgia has momentum and seeing as it’s Yoculan’s last year, I could see them repeating (again).
