Cool Trick: The Ono on Uneven Bars

By April 2, 2008

Follow me on:

Lin Li midway through an OnoIf someone asked you to do a full-twisting spin on a bar eight feet up in the air, would you do it? How about if it was on only one arm, while the other arm came down by your side? That's the Ono.

The skill is named after Takashi Ono of Japan, and has been performed by some of the best bar workers in the world: Nastia Liukin, Hollie Vise, and Beth Tweddle, to name a few.

Liukin performs an immediate half pirouette after, then goes right into a Gienger release move. Now that's impressive.

The Ono is one of my favorite moves too! It is just so pretty when done right.

What is the skill called if a man does it? And was it first done by a man or woman?
